Happy Halloween

Halloween!  Silas has been so excited this year that we carved our Jack-o-lantern a week ago.  Then we threw it in the compost yesterday and carved another one.

Due to a postal SNAFU, Si's dragon costume arrived from Mimi at the last minute this morning, but it was just in time for the school Halloween parade.

Nice spikes Mimi!

The spookiest house on Parker St.  Silas told me, "I think I see a house over there that looks pretty good!"

Marin weekend

With our friend Jason's fortieth birthday party at Tomales Bay Oyster Company on Sunday, and no school on Monday, we decided to make a trip of it and got some friends together for a campout under the redwoods in Samuel P. Taylor State Park.  It was a great opportunity, since Saturday soccer and Christine's random work schedule make it hard to get away for the weekend.  Silas's anticipation built for weeks, and he had us packing as early as Wednesday.

After the kids went to bed, the raccoons came out. They nearly made off with a leftover birthday cake.

After a rain-shortened morning hike, we packed up and headed home - stopping for hot chocolate in Fairfax.
The 28 hour trip absolutely lived up to Silas's expectations, and there are enough campsites within an hour of home that we'll keep a lookout for the next sunny, open weekend to head back out.
