Stepping Up

Last week was the Stepping Up ceremony at Silas's school, a celebration of everybody's accomplishments in the school year and of their upcoming transitions. Dress: very fancy.

Several of the older kids that Silas admires will be going off to kindergarten in the fall, and several of the younger kids who admire him will be joining his class. Perhaps the toughest transition, for us anyway, will be one of his teachers, Ms. Cristan, who will be moving to a school coser to her home in Marin county. She and Silas have been very close over the past six months; almost every day he's asked to do a work with her, specifying that he wants to do "a really tricky one." He's told us countless stories about the writing, drawing, math, and reading work that he's done with her. We're happy, though, that Catherine will still be teaching in his class. Si and Catherine bonded early last year, before he joined her class, although he's only this month decided that he's done playing hard to get and willing to give her a hug (see below).

And on to the video! The kids have been practicing these songs for months, and occasionally we've gotten some snippets at home. The video quality isn't great; I suspect this is really grandparent material, but the hugs in the last video are worth it.
