What are you feeding that kid?

peas, 1/2007

We often hear this question and thought that a little photo montage was in order. Although these photos make it look like he's a big eater (well, I guess most photos of Silas give the impression that he's a big eater) he usually just eats a few bites at a time, he just happens to love a few bites of almost anything. But the first and still the favorite food (and probably about 80% of his calories) is mama milk, or as it's known in our house, "milchie".

In the beginning...
homemade pumpkin puree, among the first bites 10/07

apples, shared with Dad of course

asian pear, shared with Mom of course

fancy Christmas dinner with Grandma Patti

his birthday banquet, cake, cake, cake and more cake, oh and some quiche

Philly cheesesteak! (vegetarian of course)

banana
the peel was kindly offered to Joey by the generous Silas

real Florida oranges with Grandpa John

placenta
(just kidding, we buried it under a beech tree but he got to touch it first)

Annie's bunny grahams, we fight over these, very yummy

olives, yes olives, lots of them, a passion he shares with Grandma Jane and his Dad

blackberries from the backyard in Berkeley, we can't go out back without picking some, it's a good thing we have a washing machine at our new house too

grapefruit, he's a big fan of citrus

black beans, some are for eating, some are for flicking

CARROTS!

and the new favorite food...

Seaweed
really, he loves it

Splish Splash

You may not be able to tell from these pictures, but Silas is a genius. He can identify many parts of the human and animal body, including teeth, tongue, mouth, nose, ears, head, belly button, and feet. We haven't taught him eyes or tail yet, for fear of the extra poking and pulling that would be inspired.

Silas still has a great love of water, and he is always excited to get up from his meals to "splish splash" in the sink to clean his hands, face, and tongue. (Sing: "Splish Splash, Splish Splash, party time, excellent!" to the tune of "Wayne's World")

This particular splish splash session is a little more involved than most; typically, the pants stay on. Silas should be over the moon next week when he starts his swim lessons at the Berkeley Y. He will be a "shrimp", jumbo of course.
